Craig Howieson kept up his unblemished record as Scotland booked their place in the quarter-finals of the men’s team event at Scotstoun.

Scotland had earlier won their group with three wins out of three to set up a last-16 clash with Sri Lanka. After Gavin Rumgay put Scotland in front, capital star Howieson saw off Dinesh Deshappriya 11-9, 11-6, 11-9, to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.

Howieson and Glasgow’s Sean Doherty then edged out Udaya Ranasingha and Rohan Sirisena 19-17, 11-13, 11-8, 11-5 to clinch overall victory 3-0.

In the women’s team event, Scotland came back from 0-2 down to level 2-2 in their final group match against Guyana, but lost out 3-2 after almost three hours with Gillian Edwards going down in the final singles to 17 year-old Chelsea Edghill 10-12, 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 7-11.

It followed an opening 3-0 defeat by number two seeds Australia and left Scotland out of the medals.
