There was a home winner at Meadowbank as Edinburgh Handball’s female players swooped to first place in the club’s debut tournament.
Irish opposition, Lughnasa Handball Club, from Dublin, produced a creditable performance to take the runners-up position, losing only by goal difference to the home outfit with Newcastle Vikings also making it into the top three.
Meanwhile, Dundee led home Scottish rivals Edinburgh and Glasgow, who finished second and third respectively, in the men’s section in what was an action-packed event with 12 games taking place over the course of the day across the two sections.
Edinburgh player Damien Roux, was thrilled with how the tournament unfolded and is hugely encouraged by the positivity generated by the even and the potential for the sport in the Capital.
He said: “The seats were all pretty full by 10.00am so that was pleasing to see a big crowd. Everybody was really happy with how the tournament went and we’ve had a lot of good comments so we definitely want to do it again.
“We want to now make it bigger with more Scottish teams coming and hopefully some international teams as well.”
