Edinburgh’s Craig Howieson narrowly missed out on a place in the main draw at the World Individual Table Tennis Championships in Paris last night when he finished second in his qualifying group.

Howieson lost to Uzbekistan’s Jokhid Kenjaev 8-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-7, 8-11, 4-11, but bounced back to beat Colombia’s Julian Ramos 11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5, 12-10. Unfortunately, it was not enough to get through, as
Kenjaev also beat Ramos to book his first-round place.
