Jets go into unknown as Mets eye revenge for cup final loss

Have your say

Scottish men’s volleyball champions Edinburgh Jets face something of a journey into the unknown when they travel to Glasgow Mets tomorrow.

Mets did not have a match on the opening weekend of the season and it is not known how strong a challenge they will mount this season. But the home team will be determined to get one over on Jets after losing a five-set thriller to them in the Scottish Cup final in Wishaw last April.

On that day, Mets led by two sets to one but Jets dug deep to pull off the win and complete the league and cup double. Jets opened with a four-set win over Beacon Fire last weekend and will be looking for another three points.

In the women’s first division, champions City of Edinburgh need to bounce back quickly from their straight-sets loss at home to Troon Team Ayrshire last weekend.

The Capital side travel to North Lanarkshire, which can be a difficult trip but another defeat is unthinkable at this early stage of the season.

At least they know one of their title rivals will lose this weekend with Su Ragazzi – rejuvenated after the arrival of Great Britain Olympic captain Lynne Beattie – facing Troon in the match of the day.

Edinburgh Jets are expected to mount another strong challenge this season and open away to Aberdonia.
