Newly-promoted NUVOC will get an early taste of what to expect in the Scottish Volleyball League Premier Division when they compete in the John Syer Grand Prix at St Augustine’s HS today.
The Edinburgh club won the second division with an unblemished record last season and also reached the Scottish Cup final, knocking out top league Bon Accord and Edinburgh Jets en route to being the eventual runners-up.
NUVOC have added Ross Paterson and Ryan Lula from Team Fife to their squad this year and could mount a serious challenge for silverware if all goes to plan.
South Ayrshire, who won their first title last season, are also in action at St Augustine’s today along with the rest of the Premier Division. Scottish Cup winners Glasgow Mets have suffered a player exodus over the summer and are unlikely to be the same force as last season and City of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Jets are also likely to mount a serious challenge.
In the women’s Premier Division, champions City of Edinburgh remain the team to beat and they open their season in the John Syer Grand Prix today.
Edinburgh Jets have signed Anna Fischer from North Lanarkshire and have a new libero, Lorena Tussis.
Newly-promoted NUVOC have strengthened their ranks by signing Agata Zaremba from Aberdonia.
