Edinburgh’s Craig Howieson bowed out of the men’s singles at the World Table Tennis Championships in Suzhou, China, but not without a fight.

Howieson beat Kosovo’s Ylli Prestreshi 11-3, 11-3, 11-4, 12-10, in his opening match to set up a winner-take-all showdown with Hong Kong’s Ming Le Hon in his qualifying group.

The Scottish No.2 lost a tight opener 15-17 and eventually gave way 9-11, 6-11, 9-11, to leave Gavin Rumgay as the only Scottish player in the singles.
