Murray feels ready to take on the World

Have your say

Andy MURRAY has backed Great Britain’s Davis Cup team to challenge for a spot in the World Group next year.

After a terrible run of results sent them tumbling to the brink of relegation to the bottom tier, Britain have turned things around under captain Leon Smith and secured promotion back to Europe/Africa Zone Group I with a 5-0 victory over Hungary at the weekend.

That made it four wins in a row, with only two rubbers lost, but the standard of opposition will increase significantly next time out, whoever Britain draw on Wednesday.

Murray, who had Linlithgow’s Colin Fleming as a team-mate, said: “I think we can get into the World Group, but it’ll be really tough and it depends a bit on the draw as well, home ties, surfaces and so on.”
