Musselburgh racing tips: Be a So Satisfied customer

So Satisfied has a sound record at Musselburgh and can leave punters purring with delight by winning there on Wednesday.

The gelding chalked up a win and a third place over hurdles a couple of seasons ago when trained by Sandy Thomson and has been runner-up twice over fences on the East Lothian track in recent months.

Now trained at Carrutherstown by Ian Jardine, the seven-year-old opened his account over fences at Ayr last term and ran well here when runner-up last month before going one better at Catterick just five days later.

The handicapper has put him up 4lbs for that effort, but he is on the upgrade and can follow up in the Enhanced Place odds at 188bet Conditional Jockeys Handicap Chase (2.00) which opens the card.

So Satisfied was beaten one-and-a-half lengths by Misfits here last month, but now meets that rival on 3lbs better terms and that should be just enough for him to take his revenge.

“He had two quick races in the mud, so we have just kept him ticking over the past fortnight or so and he is in good shape,” said Jardine. “A 4lbs rise does not look harsh and I certainly expect him to go close again.”

Eternally Yours boosted her paddock value when opening her winning account in a bumper at Sedgefield on Boxing Day, having shown plenty of promise when fourth at Musselburgh on her racecourse debut.

The mare is by Sulamani, who won Group One prizes on the flat all over the world for Godolphin, including the Breeders Cup Classic, the Arlington Million, the French Derby and York’s Juddmonte International, while her dam won over hurdles and hails from a solid family, so a career in the paddocks beckons at a later date.

Meanwhile, though, she can use that flat race speed to give weight away all round in the Play Roulette at 188bet Mares National Hunt Flat race (5.00).

Yorkshire trainer Peter Winks told me a couple of weeks ago that his small string were poised to hit form and Hartside duly got him on the scoresheet with a game success at Doncaster last week.

A 135,000 guineas yearling who started off life with Sir Michael Stoute at Newmarket before winning three times on the level and once over hurdles in Ireland, Hartside has proved a real bargain for his current connections.

Picked up for just 4000 guineas in late 2013, he has won five times and been placed on no less than 17 occasions for the enthusiastic Winks family operation. That recent win was his first for almost two years, but he had slid almost two stone down the ratings.

That Doncaster event was for conditional riders, so Hartside escapes a penalty in the 188bet.co.uk Handicap Hurdle (3.30) and can land the spoils again.

Canny Style has five victories on the level to her credit – including two on the East Lothian track – and was beaten only narrowly on her hurdling debut at Carlisle in November before going one better over timber here later that month.

The mare was coming back from a six-week mid-winter break when sent off favourite at Sedgefield recently. She was close up when a mistake at the penultimate flight cost her valuable ground and she finished a close third.

Kevin Ryan’s five-year-old can recoup those losses in the In Play Betting at 188bet Novices Handicap Hurdle (4.00).
