Second division NUVOC warm up for what is arguably the biggest match in their history when they take on Bellshill Cardinals in the men’s Scottish Volleyball League tomorrow.

It is the final game before NUVOC take on holders Edinburgh Jets in the Scottish Cup semi-finals at Edinburgh University’s Pleasance a week on Sunday, seeking to become the first lower-division team to reach the cup final.

It means there will be an extra edge to tomorrow’s league clash at St Augustine’s High.

NUVOC have won all 14 of their league matches to date, dropping only two sets and sitting nine points ahead of nearest rivals City of Edinburgh II.

They will be looking to sharpen their tools ahead of the cup semi-final.

Meanwhile, former City of Edinburgh middle blocker Mark McGivern has his own date with destiny this week as ASUL Lyon seek to upstage Paris, the joint leaders of the French Pro “A” League. McGivern is aiming to become the first British player to win a title in one of the major European Leagues.

Lyon put together seven wins in a row earlier this year but two defeats in their last three matches mean they currently sit third behind Paris and RC Cannes with just three matches remaining.
