Second division champions NUVOC are out to clip the wings of Edinburgh Jets on Sunday at the Edinburgh University Pleasance and make Scottish volleyball history.
Capital team NUVOC face the holders in the semi-finals of the men’s Scottish Cup bidding to become the first lower division team to reach the final.
In what is the 40th anniversary year of the club, NUVOC have been on a roll.
They have already beaten first division opposition in the shape of Bon Accord in the quarter-finals and Jets are aware of the threat, having won only two league matches themselves all season.
Former winners City of Glasgow Ragazzi face last season’s runners-up Glasgow Mets in the other men’s semi-final at the Pleasance.
In the women’s cup, holders Edinburgh Jets face QTS Troon Team Ayrshire, making their 16th successive semi-final appearance and they are out to avenge last year’s final defeat.
The Ayrshire side welcome back key player Kay Wheatley, who missed the recent double-header with City of Edinburgh which decided the league title. Cup favourites Edinburgh take on first-time semi-finalists Aberdonia in the other semi-final.
Schedule: Scottish Cup (Sun, Mar 22, Edinburgh University Pleasance): Men’s semi-finals: Edinburgh Jets v NUVOC (12.30pm); Glasgow Mets v City of Glasgow Ragazzi (3pm). Women: Aberdonia v City of Edinburgh (12.30pm); Edinburgh Jets v QTS Troon Team Ayrshire (3pm). Entry is free.
