Edinburgh judoka Sally Conway has her sights set on more honours after winning a bronze medal and $1500 in prize money at the $150,000 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix at the weekend.
The English-born player now heads to the Tokyo Grand Slam this weekend before another international event in South Korea the following week.
In the Under-70kg event in Abu Dhabi, the Olympian lost to Italian Giulia Cantoni in her quarter-final but came through the repechage to face Russian Irina Gazieva in the bronze medal contest and threw her opponent for waza-ari with just four seconds left.
“It’s good to be back fighting at this level and my performance was okay, especially as I’ve not competed on the tour since Russia in June,” she said.
Heavyweight Sarah Adlington just missed out on bronze when she was thrown for ippon by France’s European silver medallist Emilie Andeol and the Scot had to settle for fifth place.
Edinburgh’s Matthew Purssey, in the men’s Under-90kg event, and James Austin (at Under-100kg) both failed to emerge from their groups and suffered early exits.
