Capital tennis duo Jacob Fearnley and Euan McIntosh completed a title double at under-12 and under-18 respectively when the Scottish Junior Open concluded at Craiglockhart, writes BILL LOTHIAN.

For McIntosh, a 7-6, 4-6, 6-2 win over Ayrshire’s Adam Stevenson was doubly sweet.

It is expected to push Euan to No. 1 in Great Britain when the rankings are announced next season.

McIntosh said: “The final was my hardest match of the week and latest around three hours. Conditions were hard with the swirling wind and Adam pushed me all the way.”

This year’s under-12 boy’s champion Jacob Fearnley was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Kent’s Michael Owen.

Fearnley said: “It was very pleasing as I felt I was able to win while still having things to work on, my forehand particularly.”

In the girls under-14 doubles, Waverley’s Alexandra Hunter reached the final with Ellie Rose Griffiths, but went down to the top seeds.
