Edinburgh squash player Doug Kempsell has missed out on the chance to make a point to the Scotland selectors after withdrawing from this weekend’s Boston Open due to injury.
The No.2 seed was one of the pre-tournament favourites in Lancashire and had hoped to go one better than last year when he lost in the final to top seed Charles Sharpes.
Kempsell was also relishing the opportunity to play Rory Stewart in round two tomorrow night after the teenager controversially took his place in Scotland’s World Team Championship squad by beating him at the selection trials in Edinburgh.
“I’ve hurt my foot and I’m struggling to run, so I had to pull out, unfortunately,” he explained yesterday. “I’m gutted, especially after seeing the draw, because I was going to go out and send a message (to the selectors).”
