Squash: Kempsell’s Swiss precision

Have your say

Edinburgh youngster Doug Kempsell completed a memorable day by helping Scotland to a crucial 3-1 victory over Switzerland at the European Team Squash Championships in Amsterdam last night.

The Scots badly needed a win to keep their semi-final hopes alive after starting their Pool A campaign with a 2-2 draw with Italy.

Kempsell had rescued his team by beating Andrea Torricini in the final rubber and the 20-year-old followed those heroics with a 3-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-3 evening victory over Lukas Burkhart.

Scots No. 1 Alan Clyne atoned for his surprise morning defeat by thrashing Nicolas Müller and although Greg Lobban lost his second tie of the day to Reiko Peter, Chris Small edged John Williams in a five-game battle to secure maximum points for Scotland, who were due to face holders England in their final group fixture today.
