Edinburgh University swimmer Tain Bruce turned 19 this week – and celebrated with a new Scottish record in Aberdeen.
Bruce is currently competing at the Scottish National Open Swimming Championships at the Aberdeen Sports Village.
And in the women’s 100m butterfly final on Thursday evening Bruce led from the start and held off a strong challenge by Keanna MacInnes (Hearts) and Raquel Matos (Edinburgh University). She powered home to take the title in record time of 59.59.
“I feel that record has been a long time coming.
“I was 59.9 at this point last season. I’ve been 59.9 a couple of times since, I just needed to refocus to make that drop and I’m really happy I’ve done it here,” she said.
“I just felt too much pressure in April at the World Championship trials in Sheffield. I’ve been training hard and have come into this meet far more relaxed.”
