Two Edinburgh teenagers had a great weekend at the GB National Diving Cup in Southend, winning medals and reaching their Commonwealth Games qualifying targets.
The results over the last few days mean that George Watson’s College pupils Grace Reid, 17, and James Heatly, 16, have achieved the standards set by Scottish Swimming and should be set to be compete for Scotland in Glasgow 2014 at the Royal Commonwealth Pool.
On Friday, Edinburgh Diving Club’s Reid finished second in the 1m springboard behind Alicia Blagg, but more importantly scored 254.60 to take her past the 254.58 Games qualifying level set.
Yesterday she came fifth in the 3m springboard.
On Saturday, Edinburgh Diving Club’s Heatly came fifth in the 3m springboard, finishing as top junior and posting a score of 374.30 to better the Games qualifying target of 372.90.
The day before Heatly and his 3m synchro partner Sam Thornton (City of Leeds) had won gold and beaten Tom Daley into second.
The duo posted 377.76 to lift the national title ahead of Daley and Dan Goodfellow and Jack Laugher and James Denny.
Also on Friday he came seventh, and second junior, in the 1m springboard event.
