Former Scottish junior tennis champion Allan Black has died, aged 72.

Nicknamed “Titus”, Black captured the national under-18 title in 1958 and was still being capped by Scotland in the over-45 age category at veterans internationals where his use of the spin shot was legendary.

A member of the now-defunct Liberton club which dominated domestic tennis in the 1960s, Allan also played for Thistle, Braid and Abercorn while a prolific winner of holiday tournament titles throughout Scotland.

He was also well known in Capital table tennis circles with North Merchiston and latterly Blackhall bowling club.

A funeral service will be held at Mortonhall Crematorium on Friday at 1pm.
