Edinburgh tennis prospects Jacob Fearnley and Anastasia Mikheeva have made winning starts to their respective campaigns in the prestigious Orange Bowl junior tournament in Florida, previously won by, amongst others, Andy Murray.

Fearnley overcame Chilean opponent Jose Garmendia 6-4, 7-5 to book a tie with under-12 boys’ top seed Adrian Andreev of Bulgaria later today. Mikheeva, winner of the Nike Invitational Masters last weekend, conceded just one game in dispatching Olga Basko (Russia).

Seeded nine for the under-14 girls’ singles, Mikheeva now faces American Kylie McKenzie in a tournament which has Marketa Vondrousova (Russia), defeated in the Nike Masters final, as official favourite.
