City of Edinburgh have a score to settle when they travel to Coltness tomorrow to face unbeaten Su Ragazzi in the women’s Scottish Volleyball League.
The Capital side slugged it out with their rivals in the John Syer Trophy back in November and had Ragazzi on the ropes at 14-8 in the final set.
But, with strong serving from middle blocker Carly McKinlay, the Glasgow side reeled off the next eight points to clinch overall victory 16-14. Ragazzi went on to win the final against Troon Team Ayrshire last month to keep on course for a clean sweep of honours.
Edinburgh want to stop them in their tracks but, to do so, they will need to subdue Great Britain Olympic captain Lynne Beattie.
The power hitter has yet to be on the losing side since she returned north in the summer after helping Northumbria to the English title.
But something has to give at the top of the table tomorrow with the leading four all in opposition. As well as Edinburgh’s high noon showdown with leaders Ragazzi, second-placed Troon take on Edinburgh Jets, just a point behind.
In the men’s first division, defending champions Jets, now out of contention, host third-placed Glasgow Mets.
