City of Edinburgh ensured there was another twist in the women’s Scottish Volleyball League title race by handing Su Ragazzi their first defeat.
The Capital side always seem to step up a gear for the second half of the season and the fact they won in straight sets – 25-22, 25-13, 25-14 – could be of great significance in the final analysis.
Ragazzi have dropped only four sets in the league, three of them on Saturday, and this was the sweetest of victories for City after they threw away a winning position against Ragazzi in the John Syer Trophy in November.
There are now just three points separating the top four clubs with Troon Team Ayrshire taking over at the top after winning a thrilling five-setter against Edinburgh Jets.
Jets edged the first set 28-26 and looked set for victory when they ruled the third set 25-12. But Troon came back to win 26-28, 25-23, 12-25, 25-15, 15-12.
In the men’s first division, Edinburgh Jets slipped to an 18-25, 11-25, 15-25 home defeat by Glasgow Mets.
