City of Edinburgh can secure the women’s Scottish Volleyball League title with a double victory over rivals Troon Team Ayrshire this weekend.
The teams meet at Queensferry High tomorrow (10.30am) and exactly 24 hours later at Marr College in Troon in matches that could finish the title race once and for all.
It would be a remarkable achievement by the Capital side, who struggled early in the campaign as they lost two of their opening four league matches.
Troon beat them in straight sets back in September but City turned the tables with a narrow victory in December, the match going to 16-14 in the final tie-break set.
City’s fortunes have changed since the return of long-term injury casualty Mel Coutts.
Since the former England captain returned in December, City have looked a different team and their double victory over Su Ragazzi means the title is in their own hands.
But anything less than a double win this weekend, would throw the title race wide open again.
Troon and Su Ragazzi also have a double-header against each other later this month, matches that would take on new significance.
But neither could catch City if the capital side do the business this weekend.
