City of Edinburgh jumped to the top of the women’s SVL Premier by handing reigning volleyball champions Su Ragazzi their first defeat.
The Capital side laid down a marker for the season by winning in straight sets 26-24, 25-21, 25-21 at Queensferry High. Ragazzi had their chances in a tight opening set but Edinburgh dug deep to take it and did not lose their grip on the match.
But there were contrasting fortunes for City of Edinburgh men, who were also unbeaten going into their top-of-the-table clash with City of Glasgow Ragazzi.
They found themselves two sets down before they recovered to take the third set 25-19. The teams traded points in a tense fourth set but Edinburgh just could not take the match into the tie-break set and went down 16-25, 20-25, 25-19, 24-26.
Elsewhere, in the men’s SVL Premier, South Ayrshire had a straightforward 25-18, 25-19, 25-20 win over Edinburgh Jets.
Edinburgh’s NUVOC made it four wins out of four at the top of League One by beating Lenzie 25-23, 25-22, 25-12.
