City of Edinburgh are now the only unbeaten team in the women’s top flight of the Schelde Sports Scottish Volleyball League after handing Su Ragazzi their first defeat at the weekend.
The reigning champions lost an epic first set 29-31, but kept their nerve to win a tight second set to triumph 29-31, 25-23, 25-22, 25-17.
It was a clear indication from the Capital side that they are in no mood to give up their grip on any of the silverware they won last term, having swept the board.
The loss dropped Ragazzi to fourth, with Edinburgh Jets overtaking them on sets difference after beating Kyle Team Ayrshire in straight sets.
Troon Team Ayrshire currently sit second but they have already lost once this season.
In the men’s first division, City of Edinburgh saw off City of Glasgow Ragazzi 25-14, 25-18, 27-29, 25-18.
Injury-hit Edinburgh had to make do without middle blocker Connor Boyle, who is out with ankle ligament damage.
That will stretch the champions as they seek to keep up their unbeaten record with some tricky matches to come.
Edinburgh Jets are the only other team with a 100 per cent record in the division, and had to work hard to see off South Ayrshire 25-16, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21.
