City of Edinburgh suffered their first defeat of the volleyball season when they went down at Bon Accord in the John Syer Trophy.

In a tight four-set match, the Capital side eventually lost out 22-25, 25-14, 23-25, 27-29, just failing to take it to a fifth set.

After losing the first set, Edinburgh came back strongly in the second with Bermudan international Jason Ebbin consistently finding a way past the home block.

Bon Accord fought for everything, though, and took the third set and then edged the fourth after improving their middle blocking.

It is a timely warning that Edinburgh will not get things all their own way this season but they will be out for revenge when the two sides meet in the league before the Christmas break.

Edinburgh Jets, meanwhile, also lost their unbeaten record, going down 10-25, 26-24, 9-25, 14-24 at South Ayrshire in the same competition, just seven days after beating the same opposition in the league.

In the women’s John Syer Trophy, Edinburgh Jets comfortably defeated North Lanarkshire away from home 25-10, 25-22, 25-18. after stamping their authority on the match in an impressive first set.

Jets II struggled to make any impact on Troon Team Ayrshire, going down 11-25, 12-25, 12-25.
