Edinburgh Jets won the women’s Final Four Volleyball Play-off title in emphatic fashion in Glenrothes yesterday to give their season a silver lining.
The Capital side stretched their winning run to 12 matches and, in this form, few would bet against them adding more silverware in the shape of the Scottish Cup at the end of this month.
Jets face Troon Team Ayrshire in the final in Wishaw and they will go into it full of confidence after they tore their opponents apart 25-12, 25-18, 25-20 in the Play-off semi-finals on Saturday.
Jets followed up by beating league champions City of Edinburgh in straight sets in yesterday’s final 25-17, 25-22, 25-23.
After Jets took the first set, City hit back to lead 4-0 in the second with strong serving by Scotland internationalist Sophie Hunter.
But Jets powered back to take the set and led 16-13 at the second technical time-out in the third set thanks to some astute play by Polish setter Dominika Stepien.
Jets then let a 19-14 lead slip as City fought back to 19-19 but just had enough firepower to win the set on their second match point.
In the men’s play-offs, Jets, the defending champions, beat City of Glasgow Ragazzi 31-29, 25-23, 24-26, 25-23 in the semi-finals but then lost 3-1 in the final to Glasgow Mets who had beaten City of Edinburgh in a tight semi-final 24-26, 25-23, 15-25, 25-17, 15-11.
