Edinburgh Jets kept the pressure on unbeaten Su Ragazzi at the top of the women’s Scottish Volleyball League – but not before they were given a scare by Aberdonia.
The Capital side were stretched to five sets by a team that have only won once in the league so far before squeezing through 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 15-9. It kept the heat on Ragazzi, who impressed again as they saw off Troon Team Ayrshire in straight sets 25-23, 25-18, 25-23 to maintain their position as favourites.
City of Edinburgh are still very much in the mix and they comfortably saw off bottom club North Lanarkshire 25-18, 25-8, 25-11, showing what they are capable of in a commanding display in the second set.
The Capital side have some ground to make up, but can go into the festive break knowing the title is not outwith their grasp in the second half of the season.
In the men’s first division, Glasgow Mets lead the way after winning 25-18 25-23 25-23 at City of Glasgow Ragazzi, but City of Edinburgh are well placed to strike in the second half of the season.
Edinburgh-based NUVOC are clear at the top of Division Two with seven wins out of seven, having beaten Su Ragazzi II on Saturday 25-19, 28-26, 25-19 away from home to keep up their fine form.
