Volleyball: Jets out to keep title hopes alive

EDINBURGH JETS must turn the tables on Su Ragazzi in the women’s Scottish Volleyball League tomorrow to keep their slim title dream alive.

The Capital side took a set off the league leaders in a rearranged match at home in midweek but lost 21-25, 15-25, 25-20, 20-25. They meet again tomorrow in Coltness before the end-of-season split. In a revised set-up, the top three teams and bottom three teams will then play off for the title and to avoid relegation respectively.

Jets sit fourth, just two points behind both Troon Team Ayrshire and City of Edinburgh.

They need to win tomorrow and hope that either Troon slip up at home to North Lanarkshire or City of Edinburgh lose at home to Aberdonia.

Ragazzi showed their vulnerability when they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by Troon last weekend.

But they bounced back to beat City of Edinburgh 25-9, 25-12, 25-23 and then Jets in rearranged matches this week.

In the men’s first division, Jets also face a crunch match at City of Glasgow Ragazzi as they bid for a play-off spot.

They are fifth, just a point behind Ragazzi who have a match in hand.

City of Edinburgh hope to keep up their title challenge at home to bottom club,Beacon Fire.
