Edinburgh Jets opened their volleyball season with a promising double-victory in the revamped women’s John Syer Grand Prix in Edinburgh.
Jets beat QTS Troon 25-21, 25-10 and followed up with a win over newly-promoted Edinburgh rivals NUVOC 25-19, 25-20.
How much can be read into the first exchanges of the season remains to be seen, but the Capital side will take great heart from their weekend before the start of their league programme.
League champions City of Edinburgh lost both of their matches. They went down 25-15, 22-25, 13-15 to Aberdonia and 20-25, 24-26 to Su Ragazzi, who are now guided by former Troon coach Vince Krawczyk.
Edinburgh traditionally take time to find their feet and will expect to get stronger as the season progresses.
However, it is a warning shot from Krawczyk’s team, as the coach has suffered so much at the hands of City of Edinburgh in the past.
In the men’s competition, newly-promoted NUVOC found the going tough, losing 19-25, 20-25 to City of Glasgow Ragazzi and 15-25, 25-19, 10-15 to Glasgow Mets.
City of Edinburgh sit joint-top with Ragazzi after beating Edinburgh Jets 25-17, 25-12 and league champions South Ayrshire 23-25, 25-23, 15-11.
