Edinburgh Jets suffered their first volleyball defeat since December when they lost to Troon Team Ayrshire in their first match in the women’s John Syer Trophy.

Jets, who were stretched to five sets in their opening Scottish League match by Aberdonia at the start of the month, were beaten 25-13, 25-22,
27-25. Troon suffered a trophyless season last term and are anxious to regain some silverware this season. Jets stretched them in the final set, but Troon dug deep to make it two wins out of three this season.

Su Ragazzi, boosted by the arrival of Great Britain captain and east development officer Lynne Beattie, eased past North Lanarkshire on Saturday 25-16, 25-21, 25-11.

City of Edinburgh opened their defence of the men’s John Syer Trophy with an impressive 31-29, 25-20, 25-14 win over Edinburgh Jets at St Augustine’s.

There was also a good win for City of Edinburgh II in the first round of the men’s Scottish Cup as they held off Stirling University 25-16, 25-22, 26-28, 26-24.

Edinburgh University beat Dundee University 26-24, 25-16, 14-25, 25-16.
