Volleyball: Semi-final places up for grabs

Have your say

City of Edinburgh bid to reach the men’s Scottish Volleyball Cup semi-finals for the seventh successive season when they travel to face Glasgow Mets in Motherwell tomorrow.

But the early-morning clash could go all the way to the wire with little to choose between the teams on current form.

Edinburgh, the 2012 winners, beat Mets in five sets back in November in the league but the two teams currently sit joint second in division one.

Mets, who lost to Edinburgh Jets in last year’s final, have already won the John Syer Trophy this season and want to get their hands on more silverware.

The Capital club has a double target tomorrow with City of Edinburgh II facing Edinburgh Jets in the quarter-finals and seeking to make the last four for the first time.

Second division NUVOC host Bon Accord, seeking to cause an upset as their women’s team did in the cup at Aberdonia last weekend.

NUVOC have dominated their division this season, winning all 11 matches so far and only dropping one set – against Lenzie back on November 1.

In the women’s cup, NUVOC have shown the way for the Capital sides by booking their semi-final place last weekend.

Edinburgh Jets and City of Edinburgh hope to join them tomorrow – Jets host second division Dundee and City are at home to North Lanarkshire.
