Played since 2005, the match is between the winners of the Edinburgh Summer League and the Glasgow equivalent, the Boundary Bell.

Mortonhall had earned the right to play in it on this occasion after becoming Edinburgh Summer League champions for the first time last season in the club’s 125th year.

Postponed at the end of last season due to poor weather, the 2017 match was played at Balmore, where Mortonhall recovered from being 3-1 down to record a 6-3 success.

Dickson takes over the post for this season’s Summer League campaign, in which the defending champions are in the same group as 2016 winners Turnhouse.
