Muir survive Stirling fightback to keep Bill McLaren shield

Boroughmuir clung to the Bill McLaren shield for a second week when they survived a second-half fight back from Stirling County to post a 29-23 win in their RBS Premiership clash at Meggetland.

The hosts appeared to be home and dry when they reached the interval with a 24-0 lead – Iain Moody, Matt Harvey and a penalty try, plus nine points from Ally Warnock’s trusty boot supplying the points – but they allowed Stirling to cut the deficit to a single point before Sean Crombie made the game safe with the bonus point score.

The result means the shield will be up for grabs in the Capital derby between ’Muir and Edinburgh Accies at Raeburn Place on Saturday. Meanwhile, Currie find themselves in the unfamiliar position of occupying bottom spot in the table after going down 24-10 at Aberdeen Grammar.

In Division Two, Stewart’s Melville maintained their unbeaten start to the campaign when they saw off Kelso 29-5 at Inverleith.

Elsewhere, Watsonians were on the wrong end of a 55-13 score line in their encounter with Jedforest at Myreside. The Borderers led 43-3 at the interval.

Lasswade bounced back from defeat the previous week with a 52-0 win over Morgan Academy in Division Three, but there was more disappointment for Haddington who suffered a third successive defeat, losing 33-7 in their match at Dalziel.
