The 20-year-old is one win away from reclaiming the coveted title she secured for a first time at Monifieth in 2015.

She faces Ayrshire ace Connie Jaffrey in today’s 18-hole final at Royal Aberdeen, where the contest will be a family affair for Young.

Her mother, Dawn, is now on caddying duties after she also played in the qualifying phase of the Scottish Golf event earlier in the week.

“I don’t treat her any differently out there than I do when we are in the house at home,” said Young, smiling. “She’s good fun on the course and helps keep me relaxed.”

That was evident as Young followed up, a 6&5 morning win over the Balgownie Links by recovering from being two down early on to win record a 4&3 victory in the semi-finals.

She is now aiming to finish off the job and record a brilliant double after winning the St Rule Trophy in St Andrews last weekend in her first outing since returning for the summer from the University of Missouri. “That’s the goal,” admitted Young ahead of what will be her third final in the event, having lost in the title showdown at Longniddry in 2013.

“The experience of winning before should hopefully be helpful, but it will be a different match from two years ago because this course is more challenging than Monifieth.”
