Where are they now? The Hearts side who battled Rangers in a thrilling League Cup final

Just over 24 years ago this week Hearts battled Rangers in one of the most thrilling Scottish finals in recent times.

Jim Jefferies’ men were looking to end 34 years without a major trophy, though they faced the daunting task of trying to overcome a side who had just defeated them 5-1 in the Scottish Cup final just six months prior at the end of the previous season.

The underdogs would give a terrific account of themselves, battling back from an early Ally McCoist double to tie things up in the second half. Ultimately, though, the brilliance of Paul Gascoigne proved to be the difference, as Walter Smith’s side emerged 4-3 victors.

We look at the 12 players who played their part that day and tell you what they’re up to these days, with one tragic exception.
