City of Edinburgh still have eyes on title

Have your say

City of Edinburgh are looking to sign off 2014 in style when they host bottom-of-the-table North Lanarkshire in the women’s Scottish Volleyball League tomorrow.

The capital side sit fourth in the table but have not given up hope of retaining their league title.

Former England captain Mel Coutts is back to full fitness after almost 18 months sidelined through a knee injury and the players have worked hard in recent weeks to get their season back on track.

A narrow win over Troon Team Ayrshire last Saturday – after being two sets down – ensured they are still in contention.

Su Ragazzi, who won the John Syer Trophy last Sunday, top the league with six wins out of six, but they face a difficult match against Troon tomorrow and a loss would give other teams hope going into the festive break.

Edinburgh Jets, who are third, are also in the mix and they need full points at home to Aberdonia tomorrow to keep the pressure on.

In the men’s first division, City of Edinburgh beat Edinburgh Jets in a five-set thriller in midweek and sit joint top with Glasgow Mets and South Ayrshire.

Glasgow Ragazzi are also in contention and, if they can beat Mets in the league tomorrow, then it would set it up nicely for the second half of the season.
