Diarmid Reay pleased Grange bosses with a debut goal.
He had to kick his heels for two weeks ahead of his debut but his goal helped Grange to a 6-2 victory over Hillhead at Fettes.
He said: “I’m glad to be back playing again.”
Reay, who is doing research at Edinburgh University, was a championship winner with Banbridge (County Down) and he has played for the national under-16 and under-21 sides.
David Knipe, Grange’s coach, said: “Diarmid did well and he’ll improve once he gets match-fit. We showed glimpses of how we want to play during that game.”
Elsewhere, Josh Cairns scored from two penalty corners as Kelburne beat Edinburgh University 2-0 in Glasgow.
David Reid, the students’ assistant coach, said: “Kelburne remain the best team in the league when they play the way they can but we competed for long spells in the game.”
Division One: Grange 6, Hillhead 2; Western 10, MJV Dundee Wanderers 0; Kelburne 2, Edinburgh University 0; Grove Menzieshill 4, Uddingston 1.
