Gridiron: Edinburgh Wolves set for kick-off

The Edinburgh Wolves kick off their 2016 season in the BAFA Division One North Football Conference with a trip to face the Gateshead Senators on Sunday.

Having lost out in the BritBowl final the past two years, Wolves are aiming to go one further this term and gain promotion to the Premier Division.

With Meadowbank due to undergo major development work, the American football side have secured Meggetland as their home venue and host their first game there against West Coast Trojans on May 15.

Wolves head coach Don Edmonton said: “We’ve had a busy off-season. We’ve had a great input of rookies which has allowed us to have a 60-man roster, the biggest we’ve had in our 14-year history. Rather than have our usual pre-season training camp, we opted to play some pre-season game against sides from other divisions. I’m hoping this preparation will allow us to get off to a flying start.”
