Hockey: Amy Costello hoping to play right tune for Scotland

Have your say

AMY COSTELLO will make her Scotland debut this weekend in the EuroHockey Indoor Championship (Division Two) in Cambrai, France.

And her classmates at Mary Erskine School are jealous that the talented teenager is being allowed time off to play for her country. The call-up comes only days after Amy celebrated her 18th birthday and she is in a squad which includes experienced campaigners including skipper Vikki Bunce and Becky Ward.

Scotland – in Pool A alongside Croatia, Lithuania and Switzerland – were set to open the competition with games against the Lithuanians and Swiss today.

Amy, who is the only Edinburgh-based player in the 12-strong squad, said: “It’s a big step up from club to international hockey but whatever happens this will be a great experience for me.”

Scotland sqaud: Vikki Bunce (captain), Charlotte Watson, Becky Ward (all Dundee Wanderers), Nicola Cochrane, Susan McGilveray, Alison Howie, Jennifer Eadie, Heather Howie (all Milne Craig Clydesdale Western), Jayne McLaughlin (Western Wildcats), Amy Costello (CALA Edinburgh), Katie Robertson (Grove Menzieshill), Robyn Collins (Surbiton).
