INVERLEITH open their defence of the Scottish indoor hockey title with a joust against Bromac Kelburne at Forthbank, Stirling, on December 5.

The Edinburgh club will also play city rivals Grange and last season’s runners-up Grove Menzieshill on the same day. It’s a tough opening before the round-robin games move to Bell’s at Perth the following weekend.

Inverleith coach Stuart Neave is unhappy about playing three games on the first day of competition.

He said: “You really don’t want three games on the opening weekend but that is what all teams have been given and we’ll get on with it.

“Ideally, we want to top the table at the end of the round-robin section and that is what we will be trying to do.”

Inverleith play PSL Team Sport Clydesdale and Dundee Wanderers and the final round-robin is at DISC in Dundee on December 19 when Inverleith play Uddingston Riva and Western Wildcats.

Grange open at Stirling against Grove Menzieshill and also play Dundee Wanderers on opening day. They face Western Wildcats and Uddingston Riva on December 12 and complete their qualifers on December 19 against Bromac Kelburne and PSL Team Sport Clydesdale.

After the round-robin matches, teams are then seeded into two pools with the finals on February 7 also at Bell’s.
