Capital diver Lucas Thomson’s superb 2018 continued yesterday in Kiev as he played his part in Great Britain winning the gold medal in the mixed team event at the World Junior Championships.
Thomson, the 17-year-old Edinburgh Diving Club member, has impressed recently in the European Junior Championships and the FINA Grand Prix event in Italy.
And clearly he took confidence from his Commonwealth Games debut in April and those two events to Ukraine because he came out of the blocks flying on the first day.
Up against some top competition, the young Brits – a team featuring three boys and one girl – were always in the mix for a medal in an event that featured individual and synchro dives.
They claimed gold with China second and the Australians third.
Thomson is set to dive again today in the men’s 3m event.
