Edinburgh’s Julie MacPherson won a a hat-trick of titles at the Scottish National Under-21 Badminton Championships at Meadowbank.
MacPherson, 17, caused an upset in the singles, defeating top seed Mauchline’s Holly Newall in a surprisingly comfortable 21-7, 21-14 win. In the women’s doubles, playing alongside Sarah Findlay (Erskine), it took three games to overcome Motherwell twins, Sophie and Hannah Morrison, 23-21, 11-21, 21-19.
Then MacPherson helped Alistair Gordon (Edinburgh) claim his first Scottish Under-21 crown. They won the mixed 21-10, 21-16 against Findlay and Callum MacMillan (Mauchline).
In the Under-13s, Edinburgh’s Eilidh MacCallister reached the mixed final with Jodie Harris (Stonehaven) but they lost 16-21, 16-21 to Glasgow pair Alice Campbell and Erin Waddell. Edinburgh’s Calum Atterbury made the boys’ doubles final with Robbie Patterson (Eyemouth) in the Under-17s but they lost in straight games to Glasgow twins Christopher and Matthew Grimley.
