Robin Miedzybrodzki and Seain Cook aim to take a major step towards next year’s Commonwealth Games by using home sand to their advantage this weekend.

Scotland’s top men’s beach volleyball pairing compete in this weekend’s Small Countries Zonal Event in Portobello, a huge stepping-stone for next month’s Commonwealth Games qualifying tournament in Cyprus.

Miedzybrodzki, from Edinburgh, and Cook, orginally from Perth, face a difficult weekend with wildcards Finland coming in as top seeds and teams from Cyprus and Wales also competing.

The Commonwealth Games’ Queen’s Baton will also make its way to Portobello to mark the fact that beach volleyball is part of the Games for the first time in Australia next year.

Scotland’s top women’s pair Lynne Beattie and Mel Coutts will be playing in the Beach Volleyball Scotland Tour finals on the same beach, their final event on home sand before heading to Cyprus for the Commonwealth Games qualifier.
