Edinburgh squash player Doug Kempsell battled through to the second round of the Bendigo International in Australia despite feeling unwell, writes LORIN McDOUGALL.

The No.4 seed claimed his second PSA title in Melbourne last week but struggled against the unseeded Czech Ondrej Ukerka who pushed Kempsell all the way in the next three before eventually going down 11-9, 9-11, 10-12, 8-11.

“Sometimes when you’re feeling bad, you just have to dig out a result,” said the Scot, who also had a problem with broken strings.

Kempsell now faces a last-16 rematch today with Maidstone youngster Josh Masters, whom he beat in three straight games in last Sunday’s Melbourne final.
