Three Capital swimmers represent Great Britain at the FINA World Junior Championships, starting today in Indianapolis, the USA.

The showpiece event runs until next Monday and George Clough (Warrender Baths Club), Lexie Waller and Keanna Macinnes (both Heart of Midlothian) will be involved.

Their selections came off the back of the British Swimming Championships in Sheffield and follow a strategy aimed at inspiring a generation of young athletes to commit towards Tokyo 2020.

Clough, the 17-year-old James Gillespie’s High pupil, said: “This is what I have been building towards for quite a few months now and it will be brilliant to be part of a British team. My training has been going well and I feel in a good place.”

Waller, 16 from Firhill High School, added: “There will be a real buzz around and we just have to stay calm and concentrate on our own swims.”

Macinnes, who just turned 16 and is at Firhill High School, beat Olympian Hannah Miley in a 200m butterfly race back in July and will be competing in the same event at this meet.
