Volleyball: City of Edinburgh aim for bumper anniversary

City of Edinburgh volleyball club are out to mark their 20th anniversary celebrations with a double victory in the SVL Premier tomorrow.

Both the men’s and women’s teams currently lead their respective leagues with unbeaten records, but face their stiffest test of the campaign so far.

City of Edinburgh men host City of Glasgow Ragazzi at Queensferry High School (12 noon) and the women’s team take on Su Ragazzi, the only other side unbeaten in the women’s SVL Premier (2pm).

Coach Ian Brownlee founded the club with a school team in 1995 and could hardly have envisaged how the club has grown.

Edinbrugh have won every major honour in the men’s and women’s game and boast a youth academy that is the best in the country.

“This is a great milestone for City of Edinburgh Volleyball,” he said. “It has taken a long time but we now have a great coaching team with players who have learned to play volleyball in the academy going on to play in Europe and the USA, and for the national team.”
