Edinburgh Jets are emerging as serious challengers for honours in Scottish women’s volleyball this season.

The Capital side, who are already through to the final of the John Syer Grand Prix, shocked title-chasing Su Ragazzi in the SVL Premier on Saturday 18-25, 25-18, 25-12, 25-21.

Ragazzi looked in control after a dominant opening set but Jets powered back and their opponents had no answer.

It gave Jets revenge for a five-set defeat by Ragazzi earlier in the season and showed how much they have grown since losing their opening two league games of the campaign.

City of Edinburgh go into the festive break in a strong position after overwhelming bottom club Aberdonia at Aberdeen Grammar School 25-12, 25-10, 25-14.

It made it seven wins out of seven in the league and, with Ragazzi slipping up, puts City in command at the top.

NUVOC went a long way to ensuring they will survive in their first season in the top flight by beating QTS Troon in straight sets 25-21, 25-12, 25-11.

In the men’s SVL Premier, City of Glasgow Ragazzi beat Edinburgh Jets in four sets and NUVOC lost to champions South Ayrshire, also in four sets.
