Play-offs for Watsonians

MAGNUS FERRIER netted a double as ambitious Watsonians secured their place in the hockey promotion play-offs with a 2-1 win at newly-crowned Division Two champions Gordonians.

The midfielder opened the scoring midway through the first-half of a tight game before the Aberdeen side, who had only lost two of their previous 21 games this season, levelled 20 minutes into the second-half.

But Ferrier kept his cool to net a penalty flick second goal five minutes from time. It meant Glasgow side Stepps couldn’t catch them despite a 3-2 home win over bottom club Waverley Inveresk Trinity.

Watsonians now play near neighbours CALA Edinburgh at Peffermill on May 6, with a place in Division One at stake.
