Rugby: Bryce shakes off injury in time for Heriot’s trip to Currie

Heriot’s have been boosted ahead of Saturday’s Premiership rugby trip to Currie after hooker Kevin Bryce recovered from a rib injury which saw him retire from last week’s clash with Melrose.

Despite suffering back-to-back defeats, Heriot’s are refusing to panic with the only change seeing CJ Osazuwa return at second row from international sevens duty with Nigeria, although Chris Mulligan is promoted to the bench after consistent reserve team form.

Coach Graham Marshall remains upbeat in praising the “excellent performances” of Kevin Bryce, Graham Wilson and Andy Scott against Melrose.

Boroughmuir have an immediate opportunity to prove their true worth following a surprise home defeat by Gala when they visit Melrose. And they should be stronger with the return of Harry Leonard and Robin Hislop from Edinburgh.

Iain Moody starts at No. 8 in place of Jamie Swanson, who moves to his normal position of flanker, and in a back-row shake-up Andrew Rose starts at open side.

On the wing, Ross Bradford receives his first start.

Melrose have Nick McGrath preferred to Alan Dodds on the wing, while at prop Gary Holborn is injured and replaced by Nick Beavon. On the bench Alun Walker is back from Edinburgh duty and Scott Wight is released by Glasgow.

Melrose coach Craig Chalmers says: “Heriot’s gave us a good test, especially in the first 60 minutes.”

* Edinburgh have signed Sep Visser, 20-year-old younger brother of winger, Tim, on a training contract.
