Rugby: Johnnie Beattie signs for Montpellier

Scotland flanker Johnnie Beattie today took a major step towards revitalising an international career which has stalled on 16 caps when he signed a three year deal with French club, Montpellier.

The 26-year-old son of former Scotland and Lions forward, John Beattie, will move across the channel in the summer, French sources were today indicating.

Beattie’s last appearance for Scotland came in the pre-World Cup clash with Ireland in August following which he failed to make the squad for the global tournament.

Montpellier currently lie fourth in the French League and confirmation is expected shortly now that Glasgow have covered Beattie’s departure by signing twice capped All Black, Angus Macdonald.
