Rugby: Jubilant Jacobsen says ‘amazing’ victory is the highlight of his career

Edinburgh prop Allan Jacobsen has declared the 19-14 win over Toulouse to be the jewel in the crown so far as his club career is concerned.

One club man Jacobsen, 33, said of what was his 69th appearance in the tournament: “That is the one. To play in Edinburgh in a quarter-final of the Heineken European Cup against the rugby equivalent of Real Madrid, Barcelona or whatever and beat them in front of 38,000 – how many times is that going to happen. To be part of that is amazing.”

Jacobsen was able to compare the victory with the previous one by Edinburgh over Toulouse at Meadowbank in 2003 – when the crowd was just over 3000.

“It was similar to our last win because I genuinely don’t think anybody outside the team gave us much chance.

“I am not even sure back in 2003 if we thought we could beat them. But I felt sure we could win this one because if we get our game right we can beat anyone. It comes from playing with each other and knowing guys will never lie down.”

“We are in it to win it – no doubt about that,” said Jacobsen ahead of a semi-final meeting with Ulster at the Aviva Stadium, Dublin, on Saturday, April 28.
